The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Programs offer free tax help for taxpayers who qualify. Trained community volunteers may help with special credits, such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly. In addition to free tax return preparation assistance, most sites also offer free electronic filing (e-filing). Individuals taking advantage of the e-file program will receive their refunds in half the time compared to returns filed on paper – even faster if when tax refunds are deposited directly into one’s bank account.  Click here to learn more.

Continuing Education

Robert Smalls Family Center is a twenty-room, multi-functional facility located near the historic district of Cheraw, SC. The center’s goal is to offer a holistic approach to assisting the families of Chesterfield County by providing a variety of quality services. Chesterfield County Adult Education and Family Literacy programs are both housed at Robert Smalls Family Center. by offering both morning and evening classes. Among the courses offered at the center are Math and Basic Computer Technology, Pre-G.E.D. and G.E.D. training and testing, Renters 101, Parenting Workshop, Worldwide Interactive Network (W.I.N.), English as a Second Language (E.S.L.), and Work Keys.  Click here to learn more.
